Texas State Guard receives oil spill response & incident management training
  Over the next three days, 26 members of the Texas State Guard are receiving specialized training in oil spill response strategies from the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX). The hands-on training is being conducted Aug. 10-12 at Lake Bastrop – North Shore Park.

Legislators battle blazes to gain perspective on state’s firefighter training
  Nearly 40 Texas Legislators and staff members were in College Station Wednesday, along with staff members serving U.S. Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn and U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, to learn more about the training that Texas firefighters receive to better protect citizens and property.

MEDIA ADVISORY: Nearly 2,000 firefighters take the heat to improve skills
  The 81st Annual Municipal Fire Training School is under way this week. It's the largest school of its kind in the world. This year, more than 1,900 students and 502 guest instructors and safety officers are in attendance. The school is hosted by the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) in conjunction with the State Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas.

Industrial firefighters attend training; Municipal School starts July 25
  Exactly 533 firefighters from refineries and other industries from across the country are attending a week of training at Brayton Fire Training Field in College Station. The 48th annual Industrial Fire School will continue through Friday.

700 Spanish-speaking firefighters in College Station for 2010 Fire School
  Almost 700 Spanish-speaking firefighters are at the Brayton Fire Training Field for a week of challenging, intense training that covers topics from basic firefighting operations and hazardous materials incidents to rescue techniques and officer development. The 44th annual Spanish Fire Training School (Escuela para Bomberos en Español) classes began on Monday, July 12, and continue through Friday.

One-of-a-kind Fire School draws firefighters from 18 countries
  Hundreds of Spanish-speaking firefighters from across the globe are expected to make the trip to College Station for the 44th annual Spanish Fire Training School (Escuela para Bomberos en Español), which begins July 11.

FEMA grant will enhance training in emergency vehicle driving
  A new grant from FEMA will allow TEEX to offer mobile training in emergency vehicle operations to hundreds of Texas firefighters each year. The $284,575 FEMA Fire Prevention & Safety grant will allow TEEX's Emergency Services Training Institute (ESTI) to purchase a mobile emergency vehicle driving simulator to provide driver safety training across the state.

Pat Barrett memorial service scheduled
  Pat Barrett, champion of the Texas fire service and advocate of firefighter safety and education, died Saturday (April 3) at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston after collapsing at an event in League City on Wednesday. Barrett, 57, was Associate Director of the Emergency Services Training Institute.
